Local anesthesia is basically the counterpart to general anesthesia, and generally refers to a local injection of lidocaine and/or Marcaine (or one of many other drugs) to anestitize a relatively small portion of the body. A nerve block would also fall under the realm of local anesthesia.

It should be noted that while in many areas it is not difficult or even illegal for non-medical practitioners to obtain it (be it from BMEshop or many other vendors), it may not be legal for them to use it.
