As the name implies, A&D ointment is a cream which contains the vitamins A and D. Its initial intended use was to treat certain skin disorders, such as acne, diaper rash and even psoriasis. In the body modification community (primarily in the field of tattooing), it is also a great supplement to one's aftercare regimen.

It has also been used as a needle and jewelry lubricant in the piercing industry.
