A wound results from any trauma which causes damage to the skin. A wound can be as minor as a small bruise, or as serious as a knife through the heart. If the wound is open, care needs to be taken to avoid Infection, and there will be bleeding, so the risk of Bloodborne pathogens must also be guarded against.

The vast majority of body modifications result in small wounds which will heal unproblematically if basic hygiene rules are followed.
