Single use materials are those used only once. "Single use" can be used to describe many of the materials used in Body modification. Needles (both for Tattooing and Piercing), Dermal punches, Scalpel, corks, etc. are usually only used once. Single use materials are used to reduce the risk of Cross-contamination.
