An apprentice is someone learning a trade, generally through an agreement to work for little or no pay in exchange for the training by an experienced person. Due to lack of regulation or licensed training available, most piercers, tattooists and modification artists learn through apprenticing, though some learn via experimentation on themselves or others (friends, family members).
