Tongue tied people have a tongue web that extends close to the front of the tongue, effectively anchoring it to the base of the mouth. In regards to body modification, this can make it difficult or impossible to do a tongue piercing, especially in a central location.

A tongue frenectomy may be performed to cut this webbing and free the tongue.
