Naproxen sodium is a member of the NSAID class of drugs and was the fourth analgesic to be sold over the counter in the United States (following aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen), and is still sold in that country today under the brand name Aleve. Other countries have their own brand names for the drug, such as Naprogesic in Australia.

It is commonly sold to relieve headaches, menstrual pain and back pain, although it is also widely used for pain relief caused by other ailments.
