Nullo is a shortened form of the word "nullification," a catch-all for all body modifications involving significant removal of tissues. For example, castration, penectomy, amputations, tooth removal, and fingernail removal are all examples of "nullo."

The term was first used in this sense when BME/extreme was set up. Shannon Larratt needed a fairly short term that met that meaning, and, thanks to reading the comic book WORMY in his youth, chose "nullo."
