SusCon is short for Suspension Convention, and was first used by TSD when hosting their Texas-based event, considered by many to be the "official" suspension event of the year. Other groups picked up on the terminology, and not long afterwards, many SusCons started being held around the world.

A "SusCon" is differentiated from other suspension events in that it is oriented around a convention, with some people travelling a distance to suspend and meet with other artists, rather than simply an event centered around a performance; they can be as much social as educational events.
