Hans Ruedi Giger (Born February 5, 1940) is a Swiss painter who is best known for his surrealist, biomechanical style.

Giger has worked predominantly in airbrush, creating strange, monochromatic canvasses depicting surreal, nightmarish landscapes. His most distinctive stylistic innovation is that of a representation of human bodies and machines in a cold, interconnected relationship. His paintings often display fetishistic sexual imagery and are considered disturbing and/or obscene by some.

Giger's artwork for the Dead Kennedys' album Frankenchrist—Landscape XX (A.K.A. Penis Landscape)—thrust Giger into the spotlight when it was the center of an obscenity lawsuit against Dead Kennedys' singer Jello Biafra.

His work has been featured in film (Alien, Dune, Species), album covers (Emerson Lake and Palmer, Debbie Harry), and even music hardware, with Ibanez guitars releasing an H.R. Giger signature series, and Korn's Jonathan Davis commissioning Giger to sculpt his microphone stand.

Giger's work, or work based on the biomechanical style, are a common tattoo theme.
