| A Frowny is a piercing through the lower lip frenulum, essentially an inverted smiley piercing (scrumper). A frowny is usually a ring placed through the webbing that sits central on the lower lip. This piercing is generally considered to be a "private" piercing since it does not usually show when smiling like an upper lip one does. The exception to this is when a large diameter CBR is worn, allowing the ball to rest on the top of the lower teeth, though this can cause gum erosion and lead to tooth decay.

| This piercing was named by Israeli piercer Sarai Bismuth, who also named the Frowny's opposite the Smiley piercing.
